Alastair travelled out to Italy by train last weekend to take part in La Lacustre vintage cycling event. A 40 mile circuit of Lake Iseo in northern Italy. A cycle across Paris to night stop in a hotel before having to dismantle the bike and put it in a bag to get on the TGV to Milan, reassemble and cycle across Milan to catch a couple more local trains to Marone where the event is based. Around 500 cyclists took part plus some vintage vehicles too. Fantastic weather and several stops for local food on the way!

Today was the last of our monthly Dr Bike sessions of 2018 in the Queen's Park. We've run 8 sessions this year and even on a wet day in October we repaired 15 bikes. Our busiest session had over 30 bikes being adjusted and repaired. We have a great team including Bob, Charlie, Paul, Simon and myself and for most workshops we have 4 mechanics on hand. We'll be back in 2019 on the first Saturday in March.

We ran the first Cycle Fest for Chesterfield School Sport Partnership today. Five schools cycled in to the Queen's Park to take part in a range of cycling games. One school did a round trip of 18 miles. Because of GDPR we are not allowed to show children's faces or identify their schools but our instructors enjoyed it too!

With my cycle campaigning hat on here's Chesterfield's latest bit of cycle infrastructure. A route from the Hipper Valley Trail into and through the Queen's Park to the new sports centre. Pity the gate is locked!
A bit further on towards the railway station the non compliant staggered gates adjacent to Park Road have been padlocked shut again making it very difficult for bikes to get through (and mobility scooters) and almost impossible for non standard bikes. As secretary of the Cycle Campaign I am pursuing this!

Specsavers have supported the taster sessions this year by sending volunteers to help. If you could help bring this intergenerational cycling project to Chesterfield donations can be given here.

Another successful Dr Bike workshop on Saturday with around 20 bikes adjusted and repaired. Couple of Brompton's, a carbon road bike and various others. Gave out lots of cycling info and led a family to the Stonegravels Way to show them the best way of getting to the canal! Here are Simon from Brampton Cyclery and Paul from Velotastic attending to Rachel's Brompton ( Stretch Armstrong Yoga ). We also spoke to the unicyclist who can often be seen in the Queen's Park and is on the cover of the latest Chesterfield Cycle Campaign newsletter!
